Durham University Law Society is one of the oldest and most popular societies at Durham University. We hold regular events which are always in high demand. The Society has three main objectives. Firstly, we hope to maximise career opportunities available to members by giving them a chance to meet and establish relationships with firms in a relaxed and informative setting. Additionally, we seek to provide an opportunity for members to interact with fellow students from other years, colleges and degrees in a social environment outside lectures and tutorials. Moreover, we also endeavour to provide information about current issues in the legal sector, ranging from careers information to presentations and addresses on current or academic issues.
The Society endeavours to create a beneficial relationship with firms that sponsor us. We believe firms benefit from attracting the best students to apply for their internships and training schemes. In turn, members benefit from exposure to firms, be it by meeting representative solicitors at events, or through advertising on the website or in the term card. This enables students to ask questions and get a better sense of what a career in law would entail, helping make the best match for both firm and student. Aside from this, we also endeavour to offer events for our Members in other areas of legal life, such as pro bono projects, and human rights.
