Peter Tatchell Presentation: November 12th 4.15-5.15 ER 157

In association with the University LGBTA, the Law Society put a highly anticipated chance to meet the leading human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell. Accompanied by a colleague from ‘OutRage!’, Peter spoke about the human rights struggles of LGBT people both at home and abroad, with particular focus on the current gay marriage and civil partnership debate.

This talk was particularly enlightening for those studying Family Law and Law, Gender & Society, as marriage and civil partnership is examined at length in both modules. There were also a good number of non law attendees who recognised the unique opportunity to hear the thoughts of a controversial speaker well acquainted with the media limelight!

Public Law Seminars

On Tuesday 25th January one of the leading academics in public law, Professor Trevor Allan, travelled from Cambridge to give a special seminar titled ‘Deference and Dialogue’. Given that the Advanced Public Law formative, and 50% summative assessment, was directly on this topic, this event was invaluable for Durham's law students.
